Daytrip: Take a short drive North on Hwy 91 to Gunlock Reservoir. Hike, swim, fish, and boat to your heart’s content. Drive further to Veyo off Hwy 18 to enjoy Veyo’s famous pie before heading back. Two Days: Visitors thin out late-August at Zion National Park, making Spring and early Fall ideal times to visit. Walk, bike, drive, or take a guided horseback ride through Zion’s showcase of plateaus, deep canyons, and striking rock towers. (STAY inside the Park at the charming Zion Lodge). Getting There: Head North on I-15, then East on Rte 9.

 

Three Days: One of the most scenic roads in the US, Hwy 12 can be driven in a mere three hours. The 125-mile byway takes in four state parks, two national parks, a national forest, and the Grand Staircase-Escalante Monument. With a world of sights, take a camera, your binoculars – and your time. To get there: Take I-15 North to Cedar City. Get on UT-14 going East to Long Valley Junction. Take US-89 North to UT-12 where the byway begins. (EATS Cafe Diablo in Torrey. Fare includes desert rattlesnake patties!)
